This block of student housing provides 30 ensuite rooms for trainee nurses arranged around a central atrium with the access stair. The client was keen to provide a high quality building for both the end users and the local community on this prominent corner site. My design was passed unanimously by the planning committee and it has been very well received.
Two contrasting bricks were used to break up the long facade with rendered bay windows which provide lovely seating in the communal kitchen to each set of five rooms. While contemporary in style, the building respects the neighbouring 1950s houses and acts as a landmark for the corner without overpowering it.
